April 1974 tornado outbreak sequence : ウィキペディア英語版 | April 1974 tornado outbreak sequence
The Early April 1974 Tornado outbreak sequence was a series of tornado outbreaks that affected much of eastern and central North America. 171 tornadoes were confirmed, most of those tornadoes were from the 1974 Super Outbreak that occurred on April 3–4, 1974. The outbreak sequence left 322 fatalities (four from the April 1–2 outbreak, 318 from the Super Outbreak). ==Storm history== The outbreak sequence began when a powerful area of low pressure formed across the Great Plains on April 1 and moved into Mississippi and Ohio Valley. As it did, a surge of very moist warm air intensified the storm. As a result a series of tornado outbreaks occurred. The first Outbreak occurred on April 1–2 and produced several tornadoes including F2 and F3 tornadoes that left four people dead. After that outbreak ended, more supercell thunderstorms were forming across the Ohio Valley and much of Eastern North America, prompting the National Weather Service to issue tornado and severe thunderstorm watches. At 4:30 PM the system spawned a second tornado outbreak, the Super Outbreak which produced 148 tornadoes across 13 states and 1 Canadian province and left 318 people dead. This outbreak lasted only 18 hours.
